University College Twente

At the University College Twente (UCT), students follow the ATLAS (Academy of Technology and Liberal Arts and Sciences) programme. This programme emphasizes a broad education in natural and social sciences with a strong focus on engineering. This is all done through a self-directed and practical-application oriented approach. Each semester’s curriculum is built around a project that addresses a real-world problem. Through this holistic approach, students learn to communicate effectively and address problems by applying tools and knowledge that are taught throughout the semester.

As a result of this approach, studying ATLAS is more than learning a subject; it is learning to recognize the multi-dimensionality of global problems, and learning how to acquire and apply knowledge of different fields to tackle these problems. ATLAS combines the rigour of academic problem solving with other important skills, such as presenting, communication, teamwork, leadership, and academic writing.

Besides taking control of their own education, students have also helped shape a special work environment that they can call their own. The students have created a community built upon the core values of trust, respect, integrity and fulfilling an active role within the community. This community is an integral part of the university college, laying down a basis for great teamwork and cooperation among the students and staff.
